Adobe Dimension CC Tutorials – Learn How to Use Adobe Dimension CC

Adobe Dimension Tutorial

This video is comprised of several mini Adobe Dimension CC tutorials to showcase the capabilities of this amazing 3D compositing tool.

You might know Dimension by its public beta name, Project Felix, but it now as a full release, it a new name. Adobe Introduced Adobe Dimension CC during the Adobe MAX conference in last October, alongside the new Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC 2018.

Project Feliz - Adobe Dimension CC Tutorials

Adobe Dimension CC (formerly Project Felix) makes it easy for graphic designers to create high-quality, photorealistic 3D images without having any previous 3D experience. This video wil be part of my Photoshop 3D tutorials series, but it will focus mainly on Dimension CC.

Adobe Dimension CC Tutorials

In this video, you will see several mini-tutorials that showcase the powers of Adobe Dimension CC, and you how can use it to create photorealistic comps that combine 2D and 3D assets.

Here’s a rundown of some of the things that you will learn in this video tutorial:

Place Graphics on 3D Surfaces (Decals)

Adobe Dimension CC has a feature called “Decals” that allows you to drag-and-drop logos or graphics onto any 3D model to see how your design concept will look in real life. Experiment with different layouts — as you move your graphic around, it will maintain the same angle and orientation of your model.

Decal

Match Image Automation

When you import a background image, Adobe Dimension CC will automatically set the light, camera, perspective, aspect ratio, and more to make your object match perfectly. This takes out all the gues work and complicated compositing techniques.

When you choose an outdoor image, Dimension detects the direction and strength of the sun and automatically lights your object accordingly.

Reflections

Familiar Tools and Shortcuts

Interface with Dimension just like other Creative Cloud apps, such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Work smoothly with familiar interactions like file organization, color picker, drag and drop, selection targeting, and more.

Multi-layered PSD Renders

Dimension CC allows you to export PSDs (Photoshop files), giving you more capabilities and control for post-processing 3D composites.

Material Editing Controls

Control the placement and appearance of textures for your materials with offset, rotate and tile options. For example, adjust the direction of the grain on a wooden object to get your desired visual effect.

Adobe Stock Assets

Get hundreds of free Adobe Stock assets that have been optimized for Dimension, accessible right inside the app. Customize your scene with thousands of 3D models, lights, and materials.

Real-time Render Preview

Dimension shows you a preview of what your final render will look like in real time, so you can get the look you want before taking the time to render. Play and experiment with different materials, lighting, and more and see how it looks as you go.

Render View

Animated Tool Tips

Much like the Photoshop CC 2018, Adobe Dimension CC has animated tooltips that show you what each tool and slider does, so that you don’t have to memorize all the options and controls.

Camera Depth of Field Controls

Control the focus settings for your camera to simulate realistic blur effects.

Depth of Field

Material Capture

Material captured is not mentioned in the Adobe Dimension CC tutorials video, but it is a powerful feature that allows you to sse Adobe Capture CC to generate physically-based materials from any image you take with your mobile device.

You can access your saved materials directly in Dimension via CC Libraries and apply them to your 3D objects.

Dimension CC System Requirements

Hardware is the single largest contributor to performance in Dimension CC. Best practice is to use hardware that meets the recommended system requirements. Running Dimension CC on underpowered hardware that meets the minimum requirements may function but limits the performance.

Windows: To check your system’s hardware configuration in Windows 10, right-click the Windows Start button in the taskbar and select System.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (64-bit) – Version 1607 (build 10.0.14393) or later

In this tutorial, you will learn 5 useful Photoshop Tricks that you probably don’t know.

Select Colors from Outside Photoshop

With the Eyedropper tool, you can select colors from outside of Photoshop. Move the photoshop application frame to the side. Click inside the canvas and drag to another application to select any color that you like.

Two Windows Same Document

You can open the same document in two windows to work both on details and the overall all image at the same time.

Go to Window > Arrange, “New Window for” and the name of the document. Then go to Window > Arrange > Two up Vertical or Two-up horizontal to put the two tabs side-by-side.

Zoom in on one tab, and zoom out on the other. Any adjustments that you make will be reflected on both windows.

Bring Back Refine Edge Dialog Box

To refine a selection or a mask you can use the Select and Mask Workspace. If you prefer the old Refine Edge dialog box hold Shift, then go to Select > Select and Mask while you have a mask or selection active to bring it back.

Black and White Adjustment on Luminosity

The Black and White adjustment layer creates black and white images.

The sliders in the Properties panel control the luminosity of the original colors.

If you change the Blending Mode to Luminosity, the color returns, and you can use the sliders to control the luminosity of those colors.

Create Your Own Photoshop Templates – PSDT

In Photoshop CC 2015.5 and newer, you convert a Photoshop document into a Photoshop template file by changing the file extension from PSD to PSDT.

When you open the template file, you will open a new instance of that document and you cannot change or override the original file.

To edit a template file, change it back to a PSD.

The Secret To Creating Amazing Composites: Perspective And Vanishing Points

Perspective and Vanishing Points in Photoshop

In this tutorial we’ll be learning what is perhaps the most import thing when it comes to compositing images together;  perspective.

The techniques that I’m going to teach you in this video will make you a much better Photoshop user. They will make your compositions look much more realistic, and you’ll know what types of images you’ll need to complete a great composite.

You can get pretty much get everything else right, lighting, color, shadows, and extractions, but if the perspective is off, your viewer will know something is not right. They might not know exactly what it is, but they’ll know there’s something wrong with the image.

Don’t feel too bad if you’re making these perspective mistakes; I’ve seen movie posters and advertisements that are just horrible when it comes to perspective. So even some pros have problems with putting together multiple images from different sources.

“Select Subject” in Photoshop – Easy ONE-CLICK Masking!

In this tutorial, we are going to discuss the Select Subject feature in Photoshop. This is a new feature available in the 19.1 release of Photoshop CC 2018

The “Select Subject” button in the select and mask workspace allows you to select prominent objects in an image automatically with one click.

This tool is great for beginners who want a fully-automatic selection suggestion, and it is a great time saver and starting point for advanced users.

Select Subject is powered by Adobe Sensei, an advanced machine learning technology, and it is trained to identify a variety of objects in an image such as people, animals, vehicles, toys, and more.

Keep in mind that these are not perfect selections. You will have to refine them, but they are a great starting point.

My last video was all about refining selections and extracting hair from busy backgrounds.
