Photoshop CS6 Tutorials

Photoshop CS6 launched just a few months ago, and what most people have been asking me the most, is not make more Photoshop CS6 tutorials, but weather or not they should upgrade.

Photoshop CS6 is a great improvement over CS5, so I think most people should upgrade if they can afford it. If you want to know what some of my favorite new features then watch this video.

I took my top 5 favorite new additions to CS6 and made 5 mini Photoshop CS6 tutorials for you to see the new tools and improvements.

Keep in mind that these are not the only new tools or upgrades, they’re not even half of all the ones that I like, but I could only pick a few to keep this video short. Also I didn’t even want to mention 3D since that’s it own category and we could spend hours just talking about that.

I know that some of these tools might not even make your top 5 but that’s the beauty of Photoshop CS6, there’s so much new stuff that suits many different interests and fields that we could all make Photoshop CS6 tutorials and 2 people would never have the same top 5.

The 5 Mini Photoshop CS6 Tutorials are:

  1. How To Use The Content Aware Move Tool & Patch Tool
  2. Turn Photo Into Oil Painting
  3. Use The New Crop Tool In CS6
  4. How To Add Strokes To Shapes
  5. Tool Recording With Photoshop Actions

Create a Paint Peeling Off Text Effect – Photoshop Text Textures

$

In this Photoshop video training tutorial, we’ll look at how to create Photoshop text textures.

Creating this text effect will requires nothing more than a photo to use as the texture, an adjustment layer, and of course, some text!

But the difference in this tutorial is that we wont be using masks, clipping masks, or blending modes to add the texture to the text as we’ve done in other tutorials; like the fur text effect for example. We will instead use the good ol’ ”pattern overlay” layer style!

This effect works best when you use a texture that has some transparent sections, so that part of the text is not affected by the texture. This usually creates the most realistic results.

Photoshop text textures are always fun to create and you usually learn a lot while doing them, I hope that this tutorial is no different for you!

Leave any comments or questions below and feel free to share your results with me!

Panorama Image With Photoshop

In this Subscriber Only Tutorial I will show you how to create a panorama shot using multiple image with Photoshop.

Photoshop uses a tool called “Photosmerge” to merge images together to make a panorama shot. To get the most out of Photoshop’s Photomerge command, I recommended that you use a tripod when taking your photos, although it’s not entirely necessary as long as you remain standing in the same spot as you take the pictures, as I did with the images in this tutorial.

It’s also very important that you overlap each image by at least 30% so that Photoshop has enough detail to compare between images when trying to stitch them together. If you’re shooting with a wide angle or fish eye lens where a lot of geometric distortion occurs in the images, you’ll want to at least double that amount since Photoshop will need much more information to work with.

Keep in mind that the more photos you’re stitching together, the more memory Photoshop will require since it needs to open all the images at once. If your camera shoots large sized files, it may be a wise to save smaller versions of the photos first and work with those instead, otherwise Photoshop may run out of memory before the panorama is completed, or at least take a very long time.

The files I have provided below for you to practice are small in size and should not take too long to stitch together.

Swap Faces In Photoshop

Swapping faces or heads is perhaps what Photoshop is most commonly used for. Just about every magazine cover, or every movie poster that you see has had a head or face replaced. There are many ways to replace a face in Photoshop but one of the quickest and most effective techniques is to use the Auto Blend Layers option in the Edit menu.

Auto Blend Layers will not only seamlessly and effortlessly blend a face to a body, but it will match the skin tone as well with very little work!  As you will see in this tutorial, you will be able to swap faces in Photoshop between two people with very different skin tones and this will only take a few clicks! Some times the eyes get a bit washed out but as you will see you can easily fix that. You could also check out my enhancing eyes in Photoshop tutorial to make the eyes even better!

This a fun technique that is not just for professionals anymore, you will now be able to easily combine pictures and put a face on a different body with just a few clicks. I’m sure you’ll impress your friends with your new acquired Photoshop skills!

Creating Motion From Still Images With The Ken Burns Effect Using Photoshop

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to achieve the Ken Burns effect using Photoshop CS6.

The Ken Burns effect is a motion graphics technique which pans and zooms still images to create motion and depth. The effect has evolved to include panning in 3D space which is what we’ll be doing in this tutorial.

We’re going to move the foreground, mid-ground, and background independently of each other to create a sense of depth; this is called the parallax effect.

In the past, Photoshop was used to create the individual images of the effect, and a motion graphics application like After effects was used to create the animation. With Photoshop CS6 we can achieve this effect without the use of any other program!

This going to be a long tutorial, since I’ll be starting from scratch, and I will need to create the different images that will make up each of my planes.

But I’ve included the images already masked out for you to use, that way you can skip ahead to the fun stuff, and just do the 3D effects on your own. Download the files below.

In this tutorial we’re going to create a stylized motivational sports poster. We’ll create this composition by using only 4 images and we’ll work non-destructively by taking advantage of Smart Objects and Adjustment Layers to create the dark-grungy look.

The dark-grungy look we’re trying to achieve is similar to what you might of seen recently in Nike ads where the athletes are dark and desaturated.

The model featured in this tutorial is Lewis Howes, a former-football player turned entrepreneur who many people know for his success with utilizing LinkedIn to grow his business from scratch and his book on LinkedIn.  Lewis also has a brand-new podcast, The School of Greatness, which has featured some amazing guests, including two of my all-time favorite authors, Tim Ferris, author of the 4-Hour-Workweek, and Robert Greene, author of Mastery.
